  • The Tree of Jesse and the Annunciation, carved oak panel after the Book of Hours of the Use of Rome by Thelma Never, 1 of the Beaton panels, in the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland. The 8 carved wooded Beaton panels were made for Cardinal David Beaton, in the 1530s and are late Gothic in style. They may have been made for the cardinal's private apartments in St Andrews Castle and later removed by John Beaton of Balfour, captain of the castle. The lift shaft is in the internal patio, the Patio of Lights, clad in blue tiles and beneath a large skylight, allowing natural light to reach all rooms and floors.   • Painting of exotic birds, decorative panel in the dining room of Marc-Antoine Thierry de Ville d’Avray, in the Intendant's apartments, in the Hotel de la Marine, built 1757-74 by Ange-Jacques Gabriel, 1698-1782, architect to King Louis XV, on the Place de la Concorde, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France. The original decor of this room resembled a winter garden, with trellises, landscape paintings and greenery. The building was made to house the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne, the king's furniture collection. The Intendant of the Garde-Meuble was an important officer to the king, and was housed in this building in lavish apartments (Pierre-Elisabeth de Fontanieu from 1765, and Marc-Antoine Thierry de Ville d’Avray from 1786). From 1789, the building became the Ministere de la Marine, the navy ministry. It was restored 2017-20 and is listed as a historic monument. Picture by Manuel Cohen

  • Painted wooden panel above a window of the living quarters on the first floor of the central courtyard area, in a typical Tetouan riad, a traditional muslim house built around a courtyard, built in Moorish style with strong Andalusian influences, next to the Great Mosque or Jamaa el Kebir in the Medina or old town of Tetouan, on the slopes of Jbel Dersa in the Rif mountains of Northern Morocco. Tetouan was of particular importance in the Islamic period from the 8th century, when it served as the main point of contact between Morocco and Andalusia. After the Reconquest, the town was rebuilt by Andalusian refugees who had been expelled by the Spanish. It is managed by the Regional Council of the Ile de France, with the owners, Fondation Leopold Mayer.   • Fabric cord with tassel and painted wood panelling, in the dining room of Marc-Antoine Thierry de Ville d’Avray, in the Intendant's apartments, in the Hotel de la Marine, built 1757-74 by Ange-Jacques Gabriel, 1698-1782, architect to King Louis XV, on the Place de la Concorde, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France. The original decor of this room resembled a winter garden, with trellises, landscape paintings and greenery painted on silk. The building was made to house the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne, the king's furniture collection. The Intendant of the Garde-Meuble was an important officer to the king, and was housed in this building in lavish apartments (Pierre-Elisabeth de Fontanieu from 1765, and Marc-Antoine Thierry de Ville d’Avray from 1786). The Ile Feydeau area, a former island in the Loire, was developed from the 1720s with large mansions built by wealthy shipowners and slave traders.
