  • Candelabra, sculpture and framed maps in the Sitting Room, in the Chateau de Hardelot, originally the site of a 12th century castle, rebuilt over the centuries and finally redeveloped in the 19th century, in Condette, Pas-de-Calais, France. The current building dates from 1865-72, when its owner, Henry Guy, rebuilt the chateau in Neo-Tudor style. Since 2009 the building has housed the Centre Culturel de l'Entente Cordiale, with an arts programme involving France and Britain.   • Painted window frame with an extremely rare use of the colour lilac, from the Courtyard of the Harem, Glaoui Palace, early 19th century, in Fes, Fes-Boulemane, Northern Morocco. The room has a central fountain, zellige tilework and a carved balcony which is damaged and in need of restoration. Thami Glaoui, Pasha of Marrakech, used this as his Fes residence.   • North gallery of the main Grand-Moutier Cloister at Fontevraud Abbey, Fontevraud-l'Abbaye, Loire Valley, Maine-et-Loire, France. The cloister, built to house virgin nuns, was originally Romanesque but was rebuilt in the 16th century. Renee de Bourbon renovated the south gallery in Gothic style in 1519, then Louise de Bourbon rebuilt the 3 other galleries in classical style 1530-60. The abbey was founded in 1100 by Robert of Arbrissel, who created the Order of Fontevraud. It was a double monastery for monks and nuns, run by an abbess.   • Sarvato Bhadra courtyard in the City Palace, built 1727-32 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, founder of Jaipur, as the seat of the maharaja of Jaipur, designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya and Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob, mixing European, Mughal and Rajput architectural styles, in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The building now houses the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, and is the home of the Jaipur royal family. The city of Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Jai Singh II, the Raja of Amer, and planned and designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya.   • Courtyard of Honour and the barracks built by Haxo, now the Musee d'Histoire or History Museum, at the Citadelle de Belfort, at Belfort, Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, France. A castle was built in the 17th century by the Comte de la Suze to protect the Trouee de Belfort or Belfort Gap, and Vauban and Haxo added to the fortifications. Salvador Dali, 1904-89, Spanish Surrealist painter, lived and worked here from 1930 to 1982, when his partner and muse Gala died. Many famous artists spent time in Cadaques during the 20th century, including Dali and Picasso. The abbey was founded in 1100 by Robert of Arbrissel, who created the Order of Fontevraud. It was a double monastery for monks and nuns, run by an abbess. Adele makes work inspired by found objects, often hammering the metal into or around found or man-made shapes to create one-off pieces. Cockpit was founded in 1986 with 5 units opening in Cockpit Yard in Holborn, and now supports 170 businesses in the Holborn and Deptford sites. The building is viewed through the Doric columns with alternating cubic and cylindrical forms of the Director's House or Maison du Directeur. The site is designed in a semicircle, with the Director's House, 2 saltworks containing drying ovens, heating pots and salt stores, workers' accommodation and Director's stables.   • Remains of the battlemented curtain wall, built 1240-60, which surrounded the island courtyard of Tintagel Castle, built by Richard, 1st Earl of Cornwall in the 13th century, Tintagel Island, Cornwall, England. The ruined castle is linked with Arthurian Legend, as Geoffrey of Monmouth cited it as the place of conception of King Arthur in his 12th century book, History of the Kings of England.   • Glastonbury Abbey, a Benedictine monastery founded in the 7th century, enlarged in the 10th century, destroyed by fire in the 12th century and rebuilt then sacked in the Dissolution of the Monasteries, in Glastonbury, Somerset, England. In the distance is the Abbot's Kitchen, built 1334-42, an octagonal mediaeval building serving as kitchen to the monastery. Christian legend claims the monastery was founded by Joseph of Arimathea in the 1st century AD, and it has many ties to Arthurian legend, including that he was buried here.   • Black Room of the Joanina Library, or Biblioteca Joanina, a Baroque library built 1717-28 by Gaspar Ferreira, part of the University of Coimbra General Library, in Coimbra, Portugal. The bookshelves were made, gilded and lacquered by Manuel da Silva and the portrait is of King John V or Joao V, 1689-1750, by Domenico Dupra, 1725. The Casa da Livraria was built during the reign of King John V or Joao V, and consists of the Green Room, Red Room and Black Room, with 250,000 books dating from the 16th - 18th centuries. The library is part of the Faculty of Law and the University is housed in the buildings of the Royal Palace of Coimbra.   • Monumental stained glass window of the stages of the tree of life with landscape and birds, by Rigalt Granell & Cia, on all 4 floors of the private area at the rear of the Casa Lleo i Morera, originally built in 1864 as the Casa Rocamora by Joaquim Sitjas, and remodelled 1902-06 by Catalan Modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner, 1850-1923. The project was commissioned by Francesca Morera and overseen after her death by her son Albert Lleo i Morera. The architect employed many Modernist craftsmen on the project, with sculptures by Eusebi Arnau, furniture by Gaspar Homar, ceramics by Antoni Serra i Fiter and mosaics by Mario Maragliano and Lluis Bru.   • Tunnel on the undulating roof, with mosaic covered staircase opening and chimneys with twisted, organic forms, at La Pedrera, or Casa Mila, built 1906-10 by Catalan Modernist architect Antoni Gaudi, 1852-1926, on Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Some of the chimneys resemble soldiers guarding the house, and the roof is sometimes known as the Garden of Warriors. The house was commissioned by businessman Pere Mila i Camps, and has an undulating facade and 2 inner courtyards. Josep Maria Jujol, 1879-1949, designed the windows and fluid wrought iron balconies and the plaster work is by Joan Beltran. The building is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is currently the headquarters of the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation. Picture by Manuel Cohen

  • View of the spires and construction cranes at La Sagrada Familia, unfinished Roman Catholic church designed by Catalan Modernist architect Antoni Gaudi, 1852–1926, seen from the Hospital de Sant Pau or Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, with its Gothic style cross on the left, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Construction began on the church in 1882 and Gaudi worked on it until his death. The project is due to be completed in 2026. It has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984.   • Statue of Faith, 1 of the 3 theological Virtues, by Pau Gargallo, 1881-1934, on the facade of the Administration Pavilion, built 1905-10, at the Hospital de Sant Pau, or Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, built 1902-30, designed by Catalan Modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner, 1850-1923, in El Guinardo, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The original medieval hospital of 1401 was replaced with this complex in the 20th century thanks to capital provided in the will of Pau Gil. The hospital consists of 27 pavilions surrounded by gardens and linked by tunnels, using the Modernist Art Nouveau style with great attention to detail. On the death of the architect, his son Pere Domenech i Roura took over the project. The complex was listed in 1997 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen

  • Second floor of the main entrance hall with marble work by Alfons Juyol and mosaics by Lluis Bru, in the Casa Navas, built 1902-7 in Modernist style by Lluis Domenech i Montaner, 1850-1923, Catalan Modernist architect, on the Plaza del Mercadal or Market Square in Reus, Catalonia, Spain. The original skylight above was destroyed in 1938 during the Spanish Civil War, and was restored in 1990 by Maria Font Rubin, the Carandell But workshop and Carmen Fernandez. The house was built for Joaquim Navas Padro. The interiors were completed by Alfons Juyol i Bach (marble), Tomas Bergada (paintings), Gaspar Homar (furniture) and Hipolit Montseny (ceramics).   • Fresco decoration of an architectural framework with statues, a tripod on a base and a woman on a balcony with her maidservant, on the North wall of the Frigidarium or cold pool of the baths in the Casa del Criptoportico, or House of the Cryptoporticus, Pompeii, Italy. This room is decorated in the Second Style of Pompeiian wall painting, 1st century BC. The house is one of the largest in Pompeii and was owned by the Valerii Rufi family and built in the 3rd century BC. It takes its name from the underground corridor or cryptoporticus used as a wine cellar and lit by small windows. Pompeii is a Roman town which was destroyed and buried under 4-6 m of volcanic ash in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Buildings and artefacts were preserved in the ash and have been excavated and restored. Pompeii is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
