  • Decorative plasterwork in the narrow passage of the Vestibulo, or Entrance Hall, beyond the main entrance to the Mudejar Palace, or Palacio del Rey Don Pedro, built by Pedro I of Castile, 1334-1369, in 1364, in the Real Alcazar, a Moorish royal palace in Seville, Andalusia, Spain. The 2 narrow passages have right-angle bends to maintain privacy. The passages border the Patio de las Doncellas, or Courtyard of the Maidens and the Patio de las Munecas, or Courtyard of the Dolls. The Alcazar was first founded as a fort in 913, then developed as a palace in the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries and used by both Muslim and Christian rulers.   • Asymmetric wrought iron gate at the entrance to Castel Beranger, Art Nouveau apartment building designed by Hector Guimard and built 1895-98, at 14 rue de la Fontaine in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. The gate is set between carved columns within an archway, and leads to the communal entrance hall. This was the first residential building to be built in Paris in the Art Nouveau style, with organic, fluid decorative elements inspired by natural forms.   • Colonaded entrance to the step pyramid of Djoser, or Step Tomb, in the funerary complex of Djoser, 2nd pharaoh of the 3rd dynasty in the Old Kingdom, c. 2600 BC, built by the royal architect Imhotep, at Saqqara, Egypt. The long entrance hall is flanked by engaged stone columns in the form of bundles of papyrus or palm branches, and at each end, an immobile stone imitation open door. The burial site at Saqqara, containing pyramids, mastabas and tombs from 1st dynasty to the Greco Roman period, was the royal necropolis for Memphis.   • Entrance, built by king James V c. 1533 to give access to the outer enclosure, to Linlithgow Palace, built 15th century under king James I, and rebuilt 1618-22 by king James VI, a royal palace and residence for Scottish monarchs, in West Lothian, Scotland. Above the entrance are the 4 European orders of chivalry to which James V belonged, the Order of the Garter, Order of the Thistle, Order of the Golden Fleece and Order of St Michael. Mary Queen of Scots was born here. The palace was a resting place for Stuart royalty travelling between Edinburgh and Stirling.   • The left entrance door with angel musicians in the vaults and a sculpted tympanum representing the Annunciation, Collegiale Notre-Dame de Poissy, a catholic parish church founded c. 1016 by Robert the Pious and rebuilt 1130-60 in late Romanesque and early Gothic styles, Poissy, Yvelines, France. In the tympanum, heavenly rays reach three fleurs de lys in a vase, representing the Virgin, and the dove of the holy spirit flies along a ray. The wooden door was sculpted in 1540, and the whole entrance was restored 1999-2000. The CIUP or Cite U was founded in 1925 after the First World War by Andre Honnorat and Emile Deutsch de la Meurthe to create a place of cooperation and peace amongst students and researchers from around the world.   • Entrance gate to the Colonial Exhibition of 1907, held in the Jardin d'Agronomie Tropicale, or Garden of Tropical Agronomy, in the Bois de Vincennes in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, postcard from the nearby Musee de Nogent sur Marne, France. The garden was first established in 1899 to conduct agronomical experiments on plants of French colonies. In 1907 it was the site of the Colonial Exhibition and many pavilions were built or relocated here.
