Procuratie Vecchie, the procurator's offices, built c. 1514-38 in early Renaissance style by Pietro Bon and Zuan Celestro, on the Piazza San Marco or St Mark's Square, Venice, Veneto, Italy. The square is at acqua alta, or high water, caused by exceptionally high tides resulting in saltwater flooding of Venice and other parts of Veneto and Chioggia. The city of Venice is an archipelago of 117 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges, in the Venetian Lagoon. The historical centre of Venice is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
