Triumphal entrance of Cosimo I to Siena, detail, fresco, 1636, by Baldassare Franceschini, called Il Volterrano, 1611-89, commissioned by Lorenzo de Medici, from the Fasti Medicei, or Glories of the Medici family, series, in the internal courtyard at the Villa La Petraia, a 14th century Villa Medicea at Castello, Florence, Tuscany, Italy. Cosimo I conquered Siena in 1555 and became Grand Duke. He is shown on a golden chariot crowned by a winged victory, followed by dignitaries and welcomed by senators and citizens.
