Door flanked by Charon figures holding hammers, fresco, 150-125 BC, in the Tomba dei Caronti, at the Monterozzi Etruscan necropolis near Tarquinia, Vitero, Lazio, Italy. The door represents the entrance to the underworld and Charon is its demon guardian. The necropolis was founded in the 7th century BC and contains around 6000 graves, many of which are covered in frescos. Monterozzi is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
