Hell, with (left-right) angel prodding the souls of the damned including clergy with a spear, 3 damned bishops with beards pulled by a demon, Judas with rope around neck pulled by Satan who, with a damned soul, rides a scaled chimera or dragon of the deep, and souls bitten by snakes (bottom right), fresco, 13th century, in the upper church of St John's Church or Karsi Kilise, a 2 storey rock-cut chapel, originally built 10th century as a small cruciform church, then extended above with an upper church decorated with frescoes in 1212 during the Seljuk era, near Gulsehir, Nevsehir, Cappadocia, Central Anatolia, Turkey.
