Cosimo I de Medici introduces his son Francesco to the government, detail, fresco, by Baldassare Franceschini, called Il Volterrano, 1611-89, commissioned by Lorenzo de Medici, from the Fasti Medicei, or Glories of the Medici family, series, in the internal courtyard at the Villa La Petraia, a 14th century Villa Medicea at Castello, Florence, Tuscany, Italy. The scene is set in the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio, where Francesco, enthroned, receives the Florentine senators.
