Model of the great hall on Adelso island, with the king holding a feast, c. 930, scale 1:15, in the Birka Museum at the site of Birka Viking village, founded c. 750 and abandoned c. 975, on Bjorko island in Lake Malaren, Sweden. The hall was the king's residence, but also a temple, banqueting hall and council chamber. Birka was a Viking trading post housing up to 1,000 people and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
