Statue of Liberty, or Liberty Enlightening the World, copper neoclassical statue by Auguste Bartholdi with internal metal framework by Gustave Eiffel, inaugurated 28th October 1886, on Liberty Island, Manhattan, New York, NY, USA. The statue was a gift of friendship from France to the USA and symbolises freedom and democracy. The statue and island are listed as a National Monument and managed by the National Parks Service.
