Steam emitted from the chimneys of the Waste-to-energy plant Ivry-Paris XIII, built 1969, which processes 730,000 tonnes of non-recyclable household waste per year, producing 200 tonnes of steam per hour, used for district heating and generating electricity for 100,000 homes, Ivry-sur-Seine, Paris, France. This is a low impact way of producing energy from waste which already supplies Paris' hospitals, museums and a fifth of its housing. Picture by Manuel Cohen
