Cyril Calvet, assistant heritage conservator at the Centre Europeen de Recherche Prehistorique de Tautavel, at the excavation site at the Caune de l'Arago or La grotte de Tautavel, or Arago Cave, in a limestone cliff in the Gorges du Gouleyrous in the Corbieres Massif, in Pyrenees-Orientales, Catalogne du Nord, France. The remains of the Tautavel Man, a subspecies of Homo Erectus, 450,000 years old, was found in the cave, along with further evidence of stone age activity. The site is listed as a historic monument.
