Long religious school room with barrel vaulted ceiling and benches along walls, at Derinkuyu, an underground city built on several levels housing 20,000 people plus livestock, originally begun by the Phrygians in the 7th century BC but greatly expanded 5th - 8th century AD in the Byzantine era, near Derinkuyu, Nevsehir, Cappadocia, Turkey. The city held houses, oil presses, stables, storage rooms, a well and chapels. The site is listed in the Rock Sites of Cappadocia UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
