The Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, a 16th century Benedictine church designed by Andrea Palladio in Renaissance style and built 1566-1610, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, seen from St Mark's Square or the Piazza San Marco, past moored gondolas. The city of Venice is an archipelago of 117 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges, in the Venetian Lagoon. The historical centre of Venice is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
