Mekhu was chancellor of Lower Egypt and Sabni was a priest and nomarch or governor of Upper Egypt, during the reign of Pepi II. Originally built as a tomb to Mekhu, a chapel was later added for his son Sabni. The site holds around 100 tombs, the oldest being from the 4th dynasty, and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
