Jardin des Plantes, Paris, 5th arrondissement, France

General view of the statue of Jean-Baptiste Pierre Antoine de Monet, Chevalier de la Marck, known as Lamarck, created by Leon Fagel in 1908 and located at the entrance of Carres de la perpective (the plots of Perspective), Valhubert Place, in the Jardin des Plantes, Paris, 5th arrondissement, France. In the distance can be seen the Grande Galerie de l'Evolution (Great Gallery of Evolution). Founded in 1626 by Guy de La Brosse, Louis XIII's physician, the Jardin des Plantes, originally known as the Jardin du Roi, opened to the public in 1640.
