Mosaic, Monreale Cathedral, Palermo, Sicily, Italy

Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and the Last Supper, mosaic from the new testament series in Monreale Cathedral or the Duomo di Monreale, built 1172-89 under King William II in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. On the left, Jesus rides a donkey to Jerusalem with his disciples, while people lay down their coats and onlookers wave palm fronds, on the right, Jesus and his disciples sit down for their last meal together. The cathedral interior is covered in Byzantine style glass mosaics made 12th and 13th centuries depicting biblical stories.
