Pilgrims awaiting the lowering of the shrine containing the bones of Marie Salome and Marie Jacobe from the upper chapel, at the pilgrimage of gypsies at the Fete des Gitans, 24-26 May 2023, in the Church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer, a Romanesque fortified church begun 9th century and rebuilt in Gothic style 1165-70, in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, Bouches-du-Rhone, Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur, France. The patron saints of Romany gypsies (Sara la Noire, St Marie Jacobe and St Marie Salome) are venerated here. The church is listed as a historic monument. Picture by Manuel Cohen
