The Royal Reception Hall (Dar Al-Mulk), Madinat Az-Zahra, Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain; circa 936 to 946 AD; erected by Abd ar-Rahman III imitating the Abbasid caliphs in Baghdad in building a royal city just outside the city of Córdoba itself; the Royal Reception Hall is elaborately decorated with gold, silver, diamonds and other precious stones; the arches are made of ivory and ebony, the walls of multicoloured marbles and translucent jasper.
