Calissons d'Aix, a traditional sweet made from almond paste and crystallised melon, sold at Le Roy Rene, founded 1920, on the Rue Gaston de Saporta, in Aix-en-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhone, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France. Calissons are said to have been invented by Rene of Anjou or Roi Rene, 1409-80, who had them made for queen Jeanne on their wedding day in 1454.
