Placa do Commercio or Commerce Square, Lisbon, Portugal, with the equestrian statue of King Jose I trampling on snakes, 1775, by Machado de Castro. The square was previously known as Terreiro do Paco or Palace Square as it was the site of the Pacos da Ribeira or Royal Ribeira Palace until it was destroyed in the 1755 earthquake.
