The bronze statue of the Lion tuant une chevre was cast by the Fonderie Rudier, a foundry created in 1792 and also producing Auguste Rodin, Aristide Maillol and Antoine Bourdelle master pieces. Founded in 1794 by Jacques Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, the Menagerie of Jardin des Plantes became the largest exotic animal collection in Europe in the 19th century and is the second oldest public zoo in the world.
